Santiago de Cuba, sus escenarios históricos is part of the Tentative list of Cuba in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Santiago de Cuba developed from its 16th-century colonial roots into a city with importance in the war for Cuban independence and the revolutionary process in the 20th century. In addition to the historic city center, the site also comprises Santa Ifigenia cemetery (where Jose Marti and Fidel Castro are buried), a ring of fortresses and the town of El Cobre.
